VETERINARY DENTAL TECHNICIAN — October 28, 2010
A veterinary dental technician is a vital part of the team at the Animal Dental Center. This technician should be proficient in all general technical duties (venopuncture, IV catheter placement, thorough anesthetic monitoring, preparing and administrating medications and prepping surgical room and patients for surgery). Other duties include basic receptionist skills (answering phones, client education over the phone, scheduling appointments, taking payments from clients).

A certified dental technician should also be skilled in intraoral dental radiology, skull radiology, thoracic radiology, dental cleanings, and thorough dental charting. This technician is also expected to assist with the dental procedures (anticipate what the doctor will need to perform these procedures): such procedures include endodontics (root canal therapies, vital pulpotomies), orthodontics (knowledge of orthodontic supplies used, mold and model making), prosthodontics (making molds and models for crowns), and oral surgery (assisting surgeon with mandibulectomies, maxillectomies, oral tumor removals, and fracture repairs).

As a valued member of the team, client education is also key. Clients are instructed of all discharge instructions at the time of dismissal. Upon rechecks clients are properly educated on how to brush teeth and perform appropriate oral home care. This candidate should be highly self motivated, be able to work with minimal supervision and possess good time management skills.

The Animal Dental Training Center is a branch of the Animal Dental Center where veterinarians and veterinary technicians obtain continuing education concerning dentistry. VTS NEEDED — July 1, 2010
Shaker Veterinary Hospital, P.C. (www.shakervet.com) in Albany, NY is looking for a VTS to head up their dental program. Duties include: client education, reviewing estimates, scheduling procedures, dental prophylaxis, oral exams and charting, taking dental radiographs, and preparing discharge packets. Experience with advanced dental procedures is preferred but not required.
