2007: Qupid
Qupid is
a 7-year-old, 9.75-lb, male neutered Sphynx breed cat presented
in 2005 for a routine
dental prophylaxis. Multiple coronal resorptive lesions seen during the
anesthesized oral exam were charted and discussed with the owner upon
release. A second procedure was scheduled including a
full mouth radiographic assessment with treatment as indicated.
The
first radiograph shows extensive root and crown resorption of the lower
left
canine (#304) and first mandibular premolar (#307). Crown amputation
was chosen for 304 due to root ankylosis. Alveoloplasty was performed
with a medium round tip bur to provide a smooth surface for closure
of the gingival flap. 307 was sectioned and each root elevated and
removed intact.
The
second radiograph shows each site postamputation and extraction.
This cat went home with antibiotics and a multimodal pain protocol
of
buprenorphine and Metacam.
Rechecks at 1 and 2 weeks showed good
healing with a marked reduction of gingival inflammation.
